Midterm Blog- Who would I vote for?

If I could vote right now, I would probably vote for Obama. Although the Republican Party is known to be better with handling money, I do not trust McCain with our country. In my opinion, Obama knows more about what younger Americans and middle class Americans need and want. He grew up in a middle class family and was raised by a single parent. I think I would choose Obama partly because of his education plans and his environmental plans as well. My mom is a special education teacher and I feel like her job gets overlooked--very overlooked. I think that Obama really has plans for teachers AND students. When I look at John McCain's website and read his education plan I see nothing about teachers. I only see things about the school systems, and I do not support the whole voucher idea.
Obama really wants change in our country and I think that if he is elected president there will changes. I realize that all of the changes may not be positive, but I feel like wants to make our country a better place for everyone. John McCain seems like a good leader, but I don't think that we can depend on such on older person and someone who is so similar to Bush. Look where George W. Bush got us today. I feel like things have only gotten worse in the 8 years that we have had him as our president. As sick as I am of the political slander and the tension between the two canidates, I feel like Obama carries himself in a better way and I just beleive that our country needs someone like him who is concerned about the environment and wants to help the middle class, not just talk about it. John McCain is a war veteran, and I respect that, but Obama has really worked his way to the top through hard work and I think that all Americans should do that. I want soliders to come home from Iraq...most of all I want to know why we are there when we aren't doing anything. It has been way too long since the war started.
Overall, I just support what Obama has to say more than McCain. It isn't a matter of who is a better person because bother of the candidates seem like great leaders, but when it comes to a vote I think someone should vote for who they trust to change and make our country better. I trust Obama.

I Like that final statement. It's very compelling. I agree entirely that Obama carries himself differently from McCain and in some cases better than McCain. But as someone who knows little about what Obama would do for schools could you tell me some of those facts?

The best point you make is the one about how the teachers get overlooked. In a world where professional athletes are paid outrageous amounts for a season that lasts a few months, and teachers, the people who pave the way for the next generation, are paid next to nothing, it's just as important to recognize them as people who need change. Choosing Obama for that reason is a good reason. good job.

I am writing this as they are debating the issue of education right now. You do a great job explaining the issue you care about and breaking it down to why those aspects of the policy align with your candidate of choice. Do you agree with all of Obama's policies? Does he have any weaknesses in your mind?

I love that you relate this back to you--YOUR mom is a teacher. So clearly education matters to you.

And I agree, how is it that the most important jobs in our nation (special education teachers, social workers, nurses, etc.)/ the jobs that truly HELP our society are so under-rated? It just seems to incredibly skewed.

I hate that the most worthless (at least in my mind) jobs receive the most money. I don't care if Joe Montana can throw a football for a 300 yard pass...so he gets a salary in the millions, I care that social workers are getting paid $20,000 a year for doing a YEAR'S work to help the world. I don't know, it just doesn't seem right to me.
